Keepsake of the Week: “Without You, Too” by Kaylyn Marie

Without You, Too” is the newest single from from singer/songwriter Kaylyn Marie and is this week’s #KOTW.

In this semi-weekly blog series, we post our favorite new or re-discovered releases in independent music, our Keepsake of the Week, or #KOTW.

I love an uplifting, empowering breakup song, the kind that allows you to dance away what once was and make room for a new chapter. That’s exactly what Kaylyn Marie’s new single “Without You, Too” is.

The song begins with a simple drum beat, bass, and Kaylyn’s sweet vocals that immediately pull you in. With a memorable chorus hook (“Someday, I’ll be happy for me, too / Someday, I’ll be happy without you, too”) and witty background toots, the song classically (but not typically) builds around the narrator’s journey to find fulfillment in moving on from a relationship. My favorite moments of the song are when Kaylyn starts to belt over a sea of rhythms and swells at the end, as if to say, Finally, I can breathe and dance and just be. The song is hopeful and fun and full of light, and it reminds me of early days Sara Bareilles in all the best ways.

I first met Kaylyn at the Coffee Music Project, a friendly competition raising funds and awareness for clean water to coffee-growing communities (Project Waterfall). I’ve always admired her ability to be intentional and thoughtful in everything she puts out into the world. “Without You, Too” and “At Work”, her previous single, are the first two songs she has released in six years and will be part of a larger EP titled “Forget Me Not”, produced by indie producer Katie Buchanan. We are so glad Kaylyn is releasing new music, and we hope you continue to follow what she does next. We certainly will.
